Criminal Charges FAQs
What Do I Do if I’m Arrested
First and most importantly, SAY NOTHING! No matter how innocuous you may think the conversation is anything you say can and WILL BE USED AGAINST YOU.
How Do I Post Bail
Under the new bail reform act, you will be either be released on your own recognizance or detained (held) for a bail hearing during which a judge will set the conditions of your release. There is no more money bail. Again, if detained, say nothing other than you want to speak to your lawyer.
What Should I Do if the Police Officer Promises Leniency in Exchange for Cooperation
Again, SAY NOTHING. This is the oldest trick in the book and you will only give the police something to use against you, even if it as minor as admitting that you know something about what they are asking you about. Instead, ask to talk to your attorney immediately.
If you, a close friend or a family member have been arrested (or if you believe you are about to be arrested) know that the NJ criminal defense attorneys at GABL have over 30 years of criminal trial experience and are able to successfully navigate you from the moment of the arrest through a final and successful outcome.
